DR. CHARLEY FERRER VISITS TODAY!!!

I'm so honored today (and the rest of the week) to have as my guest, Dr. Charley Ferrer,  world renowned Clinical Sexologist and the FIRST Latina Doctor of Human Sexuality in the United States. She is the award winning author of BDSM The Naked Truth, BDSM for Writers, and The W.I.S.E. Journal for the Sensual Woman. She has written thirteen books on sex and self-empowerment. She is the founder and host of BDSM Writers Con occurring August 21-24, 2014 in New York City. I met Dr. Charley this past August at the 2013 BDSM Writers Con and I enjoyed the small, intimate conference so much I'm attending next year's. Yes, it was that good.

So, welcome to Between the Pages of Black and White...Let's talk about you and your book, BDSM The Naked Truth.

BDSM The Naked Truth is about the intricacies of Dominance and submission. It’s an introduction into BDSM relationships providing information on its unique language, sub-culture and nuances. BDSM The Naked Truth provides the answers as to why men and women are drawn to this lifestyle and its do’s and don’ts. It’s a wonderful book for beginners and the curious seeker. It also provides valuable information on the emotional and psychological connections individuals make in this lifestyle. Plus, it reveals advanced techniques on how to engage in BDSM play, how to “train a slave” and various ways to enhance your erotic pleasure that advanced practitioners will also find helpful.

You also wrote a book for authors called, BDSM for Writers. Can you tell us a little about that book?

BDSM for Writers is specifically geared toward the needs of an author; providing pointers about scenes and emotional and physical interactions that only individuals in the BDSM lifestyle would know. These tips ensure the characters and scenes the author portrays in his or her novel are accurate and realistic.

As I mentioned above, I’ve heard the buzz about your upcoming conference, BDSM Writers Con. Can you tell us a little about it and why you created this event?

BDSM Writers Con started out as a 3-Day BDSM Intensive for authors to help them learn how to write in this genre. For years I’ve read books that portrayed men and women who were drawn to Dominance and submission as either having suffered some type of trauma during their childhood for which they turn to sadomasochistic activities to overcome; or once our hero and heroine found “true love” or their “happily ever after” in the story, they suddenly realized they longer needed D/s in their life. This made their D/s desires appear pathological and something they needed to overcome when typically, nothing is further from the truth.

After the popularity of 50 Shades, many authors jumped on the BDSM bandwagon throwing in a spanking scene or some type of bondage then declaring their book a Dominance and submission romance when nothing could be further from the truth. Though yes, those are two common activities in the lifestyle, those authors failed to understand the fundamental emotional connections necessary to make the characters desires believable. It’s easy to see which authors did not research the lifestyle and which authors were dedicated to their craft and actually added workshops or researched the topic.  Though romance novels are fiction, the Dominance and submission lifestyle isn’t. Authors should show respect to the people whose lifestyle they are portraying and learn the truths; just as they do (or should do) when writing a regency, or setting their novel in another state or country for instance.

Is BDSM Writers Con just for authors or can anyone attend? Please tell us a little about this amazing conference?

BDSM Writers Con is for EVERYONE interested in writing about or exploring the world of Dominance and submission. It’s where fantasy and reality come together! It’s NOT just for authors, it’s for their readers and the general public as well. I expanded the format from the 3-Day Intensive workshop to include workshops for men and women who were curious about Dominance and submission and want an entry point into the lifestyle.

BDSM Writers Con has over 40-hours of workshops and live demonstrations on various aspects of BDSM. There are workshops geared toward authors as well as readers and the general public. For those curious about Dominance and submission who merely want to dip their toes into this uniquely erotic lifestyle, we have various workshops taught by Lifestyle Experts that will cover many aspects of the lifestyle. I invite everyone  to view our BDSM Writers Workshops page for further information.

Best of all, participants will attend various mix and mingles planned where they can interact with their favorite authors and make new ones. Currently we have thirty authors attending such as Desiree Holt, Sorcha Black, Kallypso Masters, two USA Today best sellers and many others. Plus my personal favorite, Joey W. Hill, who is our Keynote Speaker.  And of course, you’re joining us again this year.  *smiles*

Plus, we have a trip scheduled to a private BDSM Club where participants will experience a night of kink in a safe environment where they can ask questions, participate in a little naughty fun, or merely indulge their voyeuristic tendencies.

I’m looking forward to hosting our first Book Contest for BEST BDSM Book of the Year 2014. We’ve partnered up with publishers: Decadent Publishing, Total eBound, and The Wild Rose Press who have each agreed to provide the winners of our contest with a book contract. I invite everyone interested in writing a BDSM novel to submit their manuscripts. It’s free. Who knows, you may be among our winners.

(I'm working on an entry. Hope I finish in time. So now for some fun questions for Dr. Charley!)

What is your favorite holiday and why?

New Year’s Eve. Though not officially a holiday, I love it because it serves as a starting point for the year.  A way to set your gage to start over, do better, achieve a dream or two in as little as 365.

Where were you at midnight, on December 31st when the new century started?

I was standing on the Giza Plateau in Egypt with my son. It was the most amazing experience of my life. And the morning of January 1, 2000 at approximately 5:00 a.m., my son and I were the first mother and child to enter the Great Pyramid. An amazing start to a new year—a new century!

I'm jealous. Going to Egypt is on my bucket list.

What is the top thing on your bucket list?

Going to Machu Picchu.

You were just given a yacht. What would you name it?

Decadent Sin

I LOVE it!

Please complete the sentences:

I love pizza with Canadian bacon & Italian sausage.

I'm always ready for a new adventure.

When I'm alone, I like to walk along the ocean shore.

You'd never be able to tell, but I’m shy at times.

If I had a halo it would be crooked.
